Ferramenta digital simplificada para cálculo de indicadores de emissão de CO2 de residências unifamiliares no Brasil

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method that can be used to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in the construction industry. Wit the increasing digitalization of architecture, creating new methodological approaches for practical applications of LCA makes it possible to address knowledge gaps such as the lack of case studies in developing countries, like Brazil. In this context, this paper proposes CO2 emissions indicators for single-family homes in Brazil, based on case studies in conventional construction systems, namely reinforced concrete, structural masonry, cross laminated timber, wood frame, tongue and groove and staggered joint. Specifically, emissions related to the life cycle’s production phase were estimated, using only Brazilian data on material consumption and emission factor by material. The results were then compiled into indicators by construction system, and were used in the development of a simplified, digital and free tool that calculates CO2 emissions of projects based on few input data. In summary, the work contributes with a simplified approach to estimate the impact of early stage projects, with a focus on facilitating the application of LCA for students in the field of architecture and construction and for laypeople in this field. The results found demonstrate the relevance of impact mitigation at the scale of construction materials and reinforce the need for large-scale primary data collection from materials manufacturers in Brazil.
