PROARQ-UFRJ Call for Applications Nº 03/2026 — International Scholarships (CAPES-Global.edu)
The Graduate Program in Architecture of the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PROARQ/FAU/UFRJ) hereby announces the opening of Call for Applications No. 03/2026, inviting applications for international scholarships under the CAPES-Global.edu Program. The program is part of the GLOBAL DIALOGUES FOR MULTILATERAL AND EQUITABLE COOPERATION Network, coordinated by UFRJ in partnership with the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN), the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), the Southwest Bahia State University (UESB), the Federal University of Technology – Paraná (UTFPR), and the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. PROARQ participates in the Network's thematic area Energy, Infrastructure, and Sustainable Cities, bringing together research initiatives focused on clean energy, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable urban development.
The following scholarship opportunities are available:
Doctoral Sandwich Program Abroad (1 position) — a six-month research stay at a foreign host institution, followed by return to Brazil for completion and defense of the doctoral dissertation.
Junior Visiting Professor Abroad (1 position) — a six-month appointment for faculty members who earned their doctoral degree within the last ten years.
Senior Visiting Professor Abroad (2 positions) — appointments of two and three months for faculty members who earned their doctoral degree more than ten years ago.
All scholarship categories include a relocation allowance, travel allowance, health insurance allowance, monthly stipend, and, where applicable, a locality allowance.
Eligibility
Applications are open to:
Faculty members holding an active employment appointment at UFRJ; and Doctoral students regularly enrolled at PROARQ/UFRJ who have completed their first year of coursework or have already passed the doctoral qualifying examination, and who will not have exceeded 36 months in the doctoral program by the application deadline.
Retired faculty members and applicants without an active appointment at UFRJ are not eligible.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on, among other factors:
- the scientific and academic merit of the proposed work plan;
- the suitability of the host institution;
- the applicant's scholarly output in Architecture and Urbanism; and
- priority will be given to applicants who have not previously undertaken a postdoctoral research stay abroad.
As an affirmative action measure, the Call establishes a 1.2 weighting factor in the evaluation of the Work Plan for women, Black, Brown (Pardo), and Indigenous applicants.

- Preliminary results: July 30, 2026
- Final results: August 12, 2026
- Official approval: August 19, 2026
