PROARQ-UFRJ Call for Applications No. 04/2026 — Scholarships in Brazil (CAPES-Global.edu)
The Graduate Program in Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PROARQ/FAU/UFRJ) announces the opening of PROARQ-UFRJ Call for Applications No. 04/2026, aimed at selecting international candidates for scholarships in Brazil under the CAPES-Global.edu Program, linked to the network GLOBAL DIALOGUES FOR MULTILATERAL AND EQUITABLE COOPERATION.
As with Call for Applications No. 03/2026, this opportunity is part of the thematic axis Energy, Infrastructure, and Sustainable Cities, in which PROARQ works to strengthen international research and education networks focused on clean energy, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable cities.
The following scholarship opportunities are available:
Reverse Sandwich Doctorate in Brazil (1 position) – A six-month research internship at PROARQ for international Ph.D. students who are currently enrolled in a doctoral program at a foreign higher education institution.
Visiting Professor in Brazil (2 positions) – A one-month appointment for internationally recognized researchers and academic leaders with an outstanding scientific record.
All scholarship modalities include a relocation allowance, travel allowance, health insurance allowance, and a monthly stipend.
Eligibility
Visiting Professor in Brazil
Applicants must:
· Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent;
· Reside outside Brazil;
· Demonstrate internationally recognized expertise in their field; and
· Have a significant academic and scientific record over the past five years.
Reverse Sandwich Doctorate in Brazil
Applicants must:
· Be international doctoral students;
· Not hold Brazilian citizenship or dual Brazilian nationality;
· Be regularly enrolled in a doctoral program at a foreign institution;
· Reside outside Brazil;
· Not have previously received master's or doctoral scholarships funded by Brazilian federal public agencies; and
· Meet the additional eligibility requirements specified in the Call for Applications.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
· Scientific and academic merit of the proposed work plan;
· Alignment with UFRJ's Institutional Internationalization Project;
· Scientific production in the field of Architecture and Urbanism; and
· Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously undertaken a postdoctoral fellowship in Brazil.
As an affirmative action measure, the Call establishes a 1.2 weighting factor in the evaluation of the Work Plan for women, Black, Brown (Pardo), and Indigenous applicants.

· Preliminary results: July 30, 2026
· Final results: August 12, 2026
· Official approval (Homologation): August 19, 2026
